Weigh to go!

We are still working hard and playing hard in our classroom.  This week, we explored yet another measurement concept....Mass (or weight) using standard and non-standard units.  Students really enjoyed working with their friends to determine the weight of objects using a bucket balance.  We discovered that the problem with the bucket balance was that some items are too heavy to balance with 'non-standard' tools.

Specific Expectation:  By the end of Grade 2/3 students will:

  •  -   estimate, measure, and record the capacity and/or mass of an object, using a variety of non-standard units and standard units  ( cubes vs grams)
    –  compare and order a collection of objects by mass using non-standard units And standard units ( example: the glue stick weighs less than the toy whale)

  • 'Weigh to Go' everyone!
