Students in Grade 2/3 are still working hard to achieve science expectations related to the 'Soils in the Environment' strand. We have had the opportunity to observe different soil samples from various locations. We noted the living and non-living things in each sample. We learned about the nutrients contained in soil(N,P,K) and how these can be replaced to make sure plants have what they need to survive and grow healthy and strong ( fertilizers, composting). We closely examined the 3 main types of soil (sand, clay, loam) and learned how the particle sizes in these types of soils determine their ability to hold water. We are still hard at work!
