Gingerbread Fun!

We have really enjoyed talking about our Holiday Traditions.  Christmas is such a magical time of year!  Its always fun to hear the students compare "naughty Elf on a shelf" stories and talk about the fun things they do with their families over the holidays.  A few years ago, I decided to start a 'holiday tradition' in my classroom.  I wanted everyone to have the opportunity to decorate a gingerbread house which is something that my own daughters have done (and continue to do) every Christmas.  I pre-assembled the houses so they would be sturdy enough to hold lots of goodies and then just enjoyed watching the students transform their houses. We were so proud of our creations! Thanks Grade 2/3 for helping me keep this tradition alive!  I hope those houses made it home in one piece!  LOL!  Merry Christmas to all!

'Twas the Week Before Christmas!

There are so many exciting things happening at Little Falls right now! It's already been a very busy week and we still have two more, fun-filled days to go!  Here is a list of some of the fun things we have been up to:
1.  We have participated in a whole-school carol sing.
2.  We dressed up as 'holiday characters', wore crazy holiday hats and sweaters/shirts.
3.  We attended a wonderful, interactive drama performance of 'Where the Wild Things Are'.
4.  We made a gift and card for our family.  (Not sure if you opened it yet...so no pictures will give away the surprise).
5.  We reviewed 'Winter Safety Rules' since we missed this presentation last week on the 'snow day'.
6.  We squeezed in one last skating trip before the holidays.

Tomorrow will bring more fun holiday activities and traditions in our room!  Stay tuned!

Sounds of the season!

The small gym at St. Marys D.C.V.I. was filed with many classes from Little Falls as we attended a 'Holiday concert'.  We enjoyed listening to the 'guitar band', the Grade 8, 9 and 10 Band, and we listened to the Choir.  What a fabulous bunch of musicians for our younger students to look up to.  Thanks so much to D.C.V.I. staff and students for inviting us for this special event.

Settler Rotations!

Students in our class have been enjoying the opportunity to rotate through four activities with students from Ms. Mahaffy, Ms. Weber and Mrs. Silcox's classes.  They have learned about and experienced settler games and activities, made candles and cinnamon ornaments, whirly-gigs and home-made Christmas cards!  We still have two rotations to go and then we are all going to watch "Christmas on Plum Creek" up on the big screen!  We are learning a lot about early settlers.  Life was much harder for them!  It makes us appreciate all the conveniences and comforts that we enjoy today!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

What a difference a week can make.  It is beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas here at Little Falls.  We got our letters to Santa done and our Christmas countdown is on.  We did some problem solving to determine how many pairs of boots Santa would need to buy for his reindeer and we have been thinking about past Christmass' and various holiday symbols and traditions.   We have also learned about Hanukkah and Kwanzaa which are celebrated at this time of year!  Ask your child to tell you about these celebrations!
The arrival of the snow has turned our playground into a winter wonderland! Students are having a great time building forts with friends.

We still have several fun-filled school days to put in until the holidays.  It's going to be busy and exciting.  Please check in frequently over the next few weeks to keep up with all our holiday happenings!
