*Sometimes, the book provides us with an opportunity to make a connection to our own life and helps us remember a similar story that we can write about.
* Sometimes, the book inspires us to explain to our readers (in writing) the steps involved in making or doing something.
*Sometimes, the book inspires us to write a persuasive argument that shows we have a different opinion from the one in the book.
*Sometimes, the book inspires us to write a letter to one of the characters to tell them how we feel about their actions in the book.
Along the way, we talk about the features of each kind of writing and the structure that the writer can/should use to clearly express themselves. We practice spelling high frequency words correctly, appropriate use of punctuation and capital letters and experiment with new, interesting adjectives to make our work more descriptive.
